about alyssa
Alyssa graduated with her BA in English (pre-law) from Texas A&M University and immediately moved to LA, where, within a year, she and two business partners had published a women-focused music magazine that had a multi-million readership online and front-shelf presence at Barnes & Noble Booksellers. in 2017, she drove a campaign against the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s lack of female inclusivity that gained 10+million views across platforms and sparked real change in the nominations in the years that followed.
Today, Alyssa is a Texas-based communications and content strategy specialist who transforms complex ideas into compelling narratives. With over a decade of experience shaping content and communications for Fortune 50 giants, she’s mastered the art of storytelling across digital landscapes through a data-driven, strategy-first approach that aligns every word with business objectives.
Alyssa is deeply invested in small-town economic development, helping rural communities revitalize their local economies through storytelling, branding, and creative placemaking. She is the co-owner and strategy guru behind Cypress and Creed — an outdoor mercantile in her hometown county, where she is a 6th generation resident. She also mentors emerging strategists, guiding the next generation of communicators as they learn to blend creativity with strategy.
Where Seven Gen comes from
For fifty years, my family owned and ran a mercantile in Warren, TX. You could buy flour and feed and a pair of boots there, but that’s not really what it was. It was where people stopped in. Where you found out who was sick, who was hiring, whose cattle needed wrangling. During the Depression, folks came in short and left with what they needed anyway, because my Uncle Carl knew the difference between somebody who wouldn’t pay and somebody who couldn’t yet.
They gave away land, too. For schools. For churches. For other people’s businesses, some of which outlasted the store. They understood something that gets lost in a lot of modern business talk: you don’t build a place by extracting from it.
We moved home in 2025 and opened Cypress & Creed on that idea. Then The Outpost — a membership-based social lounge built by this community, for this community, where we run workshops and make room for local artisans. And for the last year, Cypress and Creed has sponsored and organized Second Saturday on the Square, a once-a-month event for vendors, local musicians, food trucks and whoever wants to come enjoy. The first one had sixteen vendors. We’re at close to ninety regulars now.
Seven Gen is named for two things: the seven generations of my family that have planted roots here in Tyler County, TX, and the way that old family mercantile did business. Seven generations out is longer than any of us will be around to see. But the work we do now should still be a guidepost seven generations from now.
